May 2 (Wed)

(Photo: Tea leaves)

This is the 88th day from the day of Risshun (New Year’s Day according to the old calendar / the start day of Spring / 立春).

People used to consider planting rice on this day. Some places still have a Shinto ritual to celebrate the start of planting.
The tea leaves picked on this day are said they are top-grade and if you drink the tea, you live longer.

Actually, the tea picking season is depending on the places because of the climate difference. For example, Chiran tea is picked around the middle of April to the end of April.
