The ash and the pumice of the huge eruption in 1914 (Taisho 3) rose up to more than 8000 meters in the air and reached the Kamchatka Peninsula.The shrine gate in Kurokami area was buried in just one day with the ash and the pumice.Its original height was 3 meters, but now it is only 1 meter.
After the eruption, people tried to dig up the shrine gate, but, the village chief suggested to keep alive the memories of the eruption.
The shrine gate will show how terrible the eruption was for posterity.
