What Is Sport Day?
Originally, “Sports-no Hi (Sports Day)” used to be called “Taiiku-no Hi (Health and Sports Day)”, and it is the 2nd Monday in October. The name is changed from 2020.
Rearranged Dates
As a special arrangement for the Tokyo Olympics, the 2020 date for “Sports Day” was moved to July 24,
“Umi-no Hi (Marine Day) was moved from the 3rd Monday in July to July 23, and “Yama-no Hi (Mountain Day) was moved from August 11 to August 10 in view of holding the Tokyo Olympics as well.
The Olympics are postponed, but the national holidays have remained as they were planned for the event.
About Next Year
The national holidays are moved subject to holding the Olympics next year, too.
“Umi-no Hi” will be July 22, “Sports-no Hi” will be July 23, and “Yama-no Hi” will be August 9.
