Sakurajima has erupted at 2:21AM today for the fist time after the warning level has been raised to 4.
It was a very minor eruption.
Kagoshima Local Metrological Observatory announced that some volcanic cinders scattered in the crater.
About 3:13AM, the smoke from the eruption reached a height of 500 meters from the crater.
Also, Tokyo University and Kyoto University found that the amount of the volcanic gas has decreased to 100 tons per day on the 19th. The volcano used to emit 5400 tons of gas at most in one day in April.
It seems like some rocks which were washed into the volcano because of the heavy rain are blocking the crater.
The Fukuoka District Meteorological Observatory says, according to dates, Sakurajima tend to emit less gas before a large-scale eruption.
So, please stay away from the evacuation areas.
*Sakurajima ferry service is avail.
*There is no effect on Kagoshima city and its sightseeing.
