It is based on a local Heike legend that Heike people put a slipper which covers 10 tatami mats on a pass to the village entrance. Genji people who were chasing them were scared of it and ran way. People dedicate about 30kg, 2m diameter slippers on the day of the monkey in November by the lunar calender every year.
