One of the most vibrant traditional festivals in Kagoshima, the Shibushi Oshaka Festival celebrates the birth of Buddha and dates back to the Edo period.
At Homanji Temple, visitors pour sweet tea (amacha) over a statue of Buddha the same number of times as their age to pray for good health and well-being throughout the year.
The main event features a colorful parade through town—including rickshaws carrying newlywed brides and energetic traditional dance troupes.
