ShakeOut Training (Earthquake Drills) Will Be Held in Kagoshima City

=============================================================
Date: November 5th (Thu) 10:00 ~ 10:01
Place: Wherever you are! (at home, at work, at school, at the shop…)
=============================================================

What Do You Do?

1. There will be a training announcement all over the city through the administrative radio system for disaster prevention.

2. Train to protect yourself when an earthquake occurs.

DROP! (where you are, onto your hands and knees. This position protects you from being knocked down and allows you to stay low and crawl to shelter if nearby.)

COVER! (your head and neck with one arm and hand)
・ If a sturdy table or desk is nearby, crawl underneath it for shelter.
・ If no shelter is nearby, crawl next to an interior wall (away from windows)
・ Stay on your knees; bend over to protect vital organs

HOLD ON! (until shaking stops)
・ Under shelter: hold on to it with one hand; be ready to move with your shelter if it shifts
・ No shelter: hold on to your head and neck with both arms and hands.

3. Depending on where you are, there may be one more drill such as escaping from the building, taking emergency bags out, leading customers outside, and other drills connected to disaster prevention.

What is ShakeOut Training (The Great Japan ShakeOut)?

ShakeOut Training (The Great Japan ShakeOut) takes only one minute and helps people in homes, schools, and organizations worldwide improve preparedness and practice how to be safe during earthquakes.

Why Do We Need to DROP, COVER and HOLD ON?

It is to automatically protect yourself during an earthquake’s shaking!
You never know when or where an earthquake might occur, so it is important to know what to do no matter where you are when you feel an earthquake start shaking.
