Multicultural Program “Do You Know about the 3R’s in Kagoshima?” organized by Kagoshima International Citizens’ Society.
It is a little bit difficult to separate rubbish, so we learnt how to separate rubbish and how rubbish is processed or recycled.
Picture: Just arrived at the waste incineration plant. The building was shining clean with no smell of rubbish. This facility was built in 2007 and it is the newest waste incineration plant in Kyushu. It cost 21,200,000,000 yen!!
We saw 2 videos about recycling and processing rubbish. Then, we had time for questions.
Did you know that you needed to remove the caps off pet bottles and tin bottles? Yet, 20% of bottles have the caps on when they come to this place. Please remove the caps from the bottles.
We also looked around in the facility, and saw the Yokoi Landfil Site. The site has the capacity to take waste for another 80 years.
Participants found out if the way they are throwing rubbish away is right or wrong. For example, can bottle tops are not recyclable because of the rubber gasket in it, so you need to throw them away as unburnables.
I was throwing away disposable heating pads as burnables, but they are unburnables.
We will feature an article about about waste disposal in the February issue of Update Newsletter.
Participants of this event.
Thank you everybody!
