Hinokami Park, located in the south part of Makurazaki City, is a scenic park with the blue sea, Tategami Rock rising at the end of a cape, and Mount Kaimondake on the opposite shore.
Makurazaki used to be where typhoons hit directly. Local people say that after the Tategami Rock was enshrined, the typhoons began to avoid the area.
The name "Hinokami Park" is said to be originate from the story of " Yamasachi and Umisachi" in Japanese mythology. Yamasachi, who lost his brother Umisachi's fish hook, first arrived here in a small boat to search for it, and that "Hinokami" is another name for Yamasachi.
In the park, a bronze statue of Yamayuki stands facing the sea, with a large sea bream lying at his feet. A sign nearby says, "Please pull out the sachichi hook from the sachichi strap, put it in the sea bream's mouth, and make a wish. The sachichi-straps are not available at Hinokami Park, so if you want to make a wish, you need to purchase one at the Tourist Information Center in front of the station or at the Makurazaki Fish Center before going to the park.
Camping is free in the park. No reservations or fees are required for camping.
From parents and children throwing a ball, to middle-aged couples taking a walk, to young groups enjoying a BBQ at the camp, visitors of all ages and groups can enjoy the park.
Also, if you go to the end of the park, you will find the "Happy Bell that Spins the Future," where you can make a wish by ringing the bell.
