Dolls festival is a Japanese traditional festival to invoke the happiness and growth of girls. People decorate gorgeous dolls for the day of March 3rd.
In Yanagawa, people also decorate “sagemon” which is the decoration of cranes, rabbits and other good luck symbols sewn on vertical threads.
Yanagawa special Dolls Festival decorations are at some places including the houses which celebrate their daughters first Dolls festival, and you can join the tour (Hatsu-zekku Meguri) to see the places which have the decorations (sagemon) on March 10 (Sat), 11 (Sun), and 24 (Sat) and 25 (Sun). The tour starts at 9:30 from Yanagawa city tourist information center (Yanagawa-shi Kanko Annaijo). *first come, first served (1,000 yen).
“Hina festival parade (Ohina-sama Hajime-kai)" will be held on February 11 (Sat). “Hina doll water parade (ohina-sama suijo parade)” will be held on March 18 (Sun) from 11:00 to 12:20.
* In case of rain, “Hina doll water parade” will be postponed until March 20 (Tue / national holiday).
