Every year on December 31st at precisely midnight, this taiko group performs on the approach to Kirishima shrine.
They perform several pieces leading up to the rousing final act, which is a recital of the story of the gods (Takachiho-no Mine is one of the places in Japan where Ninigi-no-Mikoto, the grandson of the sun god Ama-Terasu came down to earth).
The whole troupe wears masks for this final set, the drum beats are relentless and the timing is spot on.
Bring as much clothing as you can wear / carry, because it is so cold!
*If it rains, it will be canceled.
