Izuno Odoriko is an early-blooming cherry tree discovered by gardener Takeo Ishii in the mountains of the Izu Peninsula in 1965. Mr. Ishii brought the seedlings of the tree with him and moved to Hioki City, Kagoshima Prefecture. He moved the trees to Flower Park Kagoshima before he died of illness. Although the cherry blossom has a fleeting image, this type of tree continues to flower for about a month.
The park has about 60 Izuno Odoriko trees with bright pink flowers in the Grassy Square and the Contest Garden.
Take a photo of these flowers and post it on Instagram and you could win a QUO card worth 500 yen or mini botanical dried flowers in a raffle!
