This park is located in the Southern part of Osumi peninsula.
It takes about an hour from Kanoya by car.
It had been known as a scenic area since long ago and many people were attracted to the place and visited it. Shimazu Nariakira, the 11th lord of Satsuma domain visited this place and planted a pine tree.
Hanase River (Ogawa) is the center of the park. There are 100m wide and 2km long bedrock exposed on the bed of the Hanase River, and it looks like somebody carefully laid flat rocks there.
The Bedrocks has cracks in some places, so when there is a lot of water, pretty white waves appear. That’s why this place is named Hanase (flower shallows).
You can enjoy walking and looking at seasonal flowers and leaves with beautiful colors such as cherry blossoms, wisterias, azaleas, maples and other trees on the path right beside the river.
There is a camp site, an auto camp site, a bungalow village, a grass ski area, a playground, Hanase shrine and Hanase Denshiro-kan (special products’ shop) in the park.
