The water is clear, and the beach is surrounded by headlands, giving the impression of a hidden gem.
A short swim from the beach, you will find blue fish and yellow and white striped fish swimming among the corals among the rocks, making it an excellent snorkeling spot. If you are lucky, you may even see sea turtles.
A small boat service is available from Koajiro Honpo (map) in the Bo district of Bonotsu-cho, Minami-Kyushu City. The trip takes less than 10 minutes. It is fun to sway on the boat while enjoying the view of the mountains surrounding the sea.
The ferry fare is 2,000 yen per day (1,000 yen for elementary school students and younger, and free for children under one year old).
There are no restrooms at Ajirohama, so visitors may return by ferry to use the restrooms. The ferry is operated by piston and can pick you up and drop you off anytime.
Koajiro Honpo also has hot showers, so you can have a shower after swimming and feel refreshed.
*Please check the Koajiro Honpo Facebook page for the ferry's operation status before you go.
